In the early days of the internet a philosophy regarding websites emerged. It went
something like this...
"Build it and they will come."
But quickly a situation arose that caused business owners and internet marketers to
rethink this philosophy. The problem was...
"They didn't come."
Shocked and perplexed, a paradigm shift in thinking and business strategy soon emerged as
people began to realize that conducting business on the internet was similar to the
offline world.
In the bricks and mortar business world, location is everything. Many businesses are
willing to pay huge bucks to get prime locations so their stores will get noticed by
thousands of people every day so they have a better than even chance to gain new customers
and a significant market share.
This is one of the reasons specialty shops began appearing in shopping malls all over the
world. The malls used the combined resources of the specialty shops to develop mass
advertising campaigns using press, TV and radio to entice millions of people to come to
the mall each year.
Business on the internet is similar...
1. You need to create the location that people want to visit like yahoo, google, ebay and
many others have done successfully.
2. You need to find ways to drive thousands of visitors to that location so they can see
what products and service you offer.
3. You need to develop ways to keep them coming back to your store or website. A process
called stickiness.
